Using a Bristol stool chart app to record shape

An illustrated shape choice gives you a consistent starting point for a journal entry. The useful part is being able to return to that choice alongside the rest of the visit.

The app’s seven shape choices

Choose the closest illustration

LooPoo presents seven illustrated stool shapes, from separate firm pieces through softer forms to watery. Choose the closest match to the visit you are recording. You are describing an observation, not trying to earn a particular result.

The Bristol chart also appears in bowel-diary forms published by healthcare services. A chart gives entries consistent language; it does not turn one selection into a diagnosis. Follow any recording instructions your clinician has given you.

Keep shape separate from the rest of the visit

Two visits can have the same recorded shape and feel different. LooPoo asks about comfort, noticeable signals, approximate duration, and whether you felt finished separately. That lets you retain differences that a single shape number would hide.

Add a short note when the standard choices leave out something you want to remember. Keep it tied to that visit. If you do not know how long the visit lasted, an uncertain duration does not invalidate the shape you did notice.

Review entries before interpreting a pattern

A later review is most useful when you can open the original record. In Journal, search saved details, choose dates, or select two visits to compare. Check the notes and timing as well as the illustrated shape.

Rhythm describes what appears in saved check-ins after three real entries. Missing days remain missing records. Neither a chart selection nor a short sequence of entries proves that a particular food, activity, or routine caused a change.

What the app adds to a chart

A static chart helps you identify a description. A journal keeps that description attached to a date and the other details of the visit. LooPoo stores that record encrypted on the phone, with export and deletion available from Account.

Logging, Journal, Rhythm, and Food require membership. Onboarding includes a guided check-in preview. You choose the illustrated shape yourself; LooPoo does not diagnose stool photos.
